Cameras on boats have dramatically increased reports of Hector's dolphin deaths in trawl nets. In the first 3 months of this year, 6 Hector's dolphins were killed in trawl nets off Banks Peninsula and Timaru. The government's latest estimate is 3 Hector's dolphins in a whole year, off the whole east coast of the South Island.These 6 dolphins were reported by fishermen with cameras on their boats. The problem is, not all boats have cameras and not all video footage is being watched.
